ABOUT US

Founded in 1978, Mechi Surshar Carpet started off with a small store in Thamel, Kathmandu during the heights of the flower revolution. Since then, this family owned business has produced thousands of square meters of expertly crafted rugs. Mechi’s products can be traced to a wide variety of clients all over the world.

The foundation

The company’s founder Namgyal and his American importer met almost forty years ago.  Even in their young days, they were quickly able to recognize the fine quality and craftsmanship of Tibetan rugs which had been introduced by Tibetan exiles in the 60’s. This partnership still thrives today, as they have made the production of fine Tibetan rugs their passion.  Today, we see their passion reflect on the looms with the production of exceptional rug designs coupled with expert craftsmanship.
